'Oh! You Pretty Things' foi escrita por David Bowie em 1971 para o seu quarto álbum, 'Hunky Dory' (foto). A abertura é feita apenas com o piano de Rick Wakeman e o vocal de Bowie até que a banda entra no refrão. Tematicamente a música parece refletir a influencia do ocultista Aleister Crowley e do filósofo Frederich Nietzsche ao anunciar "a obsolecência da raça humana diante de uma aliança entre alienígenas e a juventude da sociedade atual".
Oh! You Pretty Things foi gravada por David Bowie (vocais, violão, saxofones alto e tenor, piano (as partes mais fáceis); Mick Ronson (guitarra, vocais, Mellotron e arranjos); Rick Wakeman (piano); Trevor Bolder (baixo, trumpete) e Mick Woodmansey (bateria) e produzida por Ken Scott.

Antes do próprio Bowie esta música foi lançada em compacto na voz de Peter Noone, do Herman's Hermits. Na gravação, que chegou ao 12º lugar em meados de 1971 na Inglaterra, Bowie tocou piano e Noone modificou a letra: a frase que diz "The world is a bitch" (o mundo é uma piranha) virou "The world is a beast" (o mundo é uma besta).
Bowie tocou essa música no programa da BBC Johnny Walker Lunchtime Show em maio de 1972, que foi ao ar em junho do mesmo ano.
