I Believe in Father Christmas foi gravada em 1974 e lançada como projeto solo do Lake, separadamente do ELP em 1975, chegando ao segundo lugar das paradas inglesas de Natal. Em 1977 foi incluída na coletânea Works Volume II. Embora normalmente seja confundida como uma canção de Natal, a intenção de Greg Lake foi compor uma canção de protesto contra a comercialização do Natal. Às vezes também é confundida como uma música anti-religiosa e Lake ficou surpreso com o sucesso alcançado.

A música, tem um riff instrumental entre os versos que vem da Suite Lieutenant Kije, de Sergei Prokofiev. Em 1982 foi regravada por Toyah Wilcox e foi usada em diversas produções. As regravações mais recentes são a de Sarah Brightman (para seu disco de 2008, A Winter Symphony) e a do Bono Vox, do U2, que a usou na campanha Product Red, que luta contra a AIDS na África.
