Além de comandar os teclados na banda, Rod Argent (juntamente com Chris White) era um dos dois principais compositores do grupo e compôs, She's Not There, Tell Her No e Time of The Season, entre outros sucessos.

Quando o Zombies acabou ele formou o Argent que fez muito sucesso com o álbum All Together Now, de 72, que tinha a músicas Hold Your Head Up. O Argent também gravou a versão original de um verdadeiro hino, "God Gave Rock And Roll To You" (veja o vídeo), escrita pelo cantor Russ Ballard, mais tarde regravada pela banda católica Petra e também pelo Kiss. O primeiro álbum do Argent também apresentou o terceiro hit, Liar, um sucesso com o grupo Three Dog Night.

Após tocar teclados com uma série de músicos, incluindo o piano de Who Are You, com o The Who e Variations, com Gary Moore, compôs o tema da Copa do Mundo de 1986, "Aztec Gold", que foi lançada como single com o nome "Silsoe". Argent também compôs temas para séries de TV.
Em 1999 Rod Argent gravou um álbum solo de piano clássico, onde apresenta seu talento e interpreta os Estudos de Chopin e músicas de Ravel, Bach e Grieg.
Até hoje, Argent se apresenta com o amigo Colin Blunstone, cantor do The Zombies.
